05/01/2009: Abersoch Lifeboat New Year's Day Dip:
In spite of the freezing cold day, the annual Abersoch RNLI New Year's Day Sea Dip goes from strength to strength! Over two thousand spectators turned out for the third event to watch 275 brave "dippers" rush into the freezing cold sea to raise money for the Abersoch Lifeboat. Most were in fancy dress, varying from an enormous Welsh Dragon to a delightful bright yellow duckling! All participants received a commemorative medal and certificate. Check out this link to see John Wormald's fantastic photographs of the event ; if you were present either as a dipper or a spectator, the chances are your photograph will be there!

The Abersoch RNLI Fundraising Committee are grateful to local businesses and friends of the RNLI who generously supported the event, including the many volunteers who gave time to help on the day, Harlech Foods, Gwynedd Disposables and Willy and Jane Williams for use of the Beach Café and car parks. Heartfelt thanks also to the Abersoch Lifeboat crew and support team and the Coastguards, all of who gave up their holiday time to ensure the event was safe. Finally many thanks for the generosity of participants and spectators; the amount raised is expected to significantly better last year's sum of £7500, all of which will be used to support the training of our crew.

PS A number of participants forgot to collect their certificates, please either send an SAE to Emma Hancox; c/o Boardrider, Abersoch High Street or collect from the shop when you are in Abersoch. Also due to the large number of dippers, we ran out of medals, just short of a few. If you missed out, please arrange to either send an SAE as above or collect at Boardrider, please allow a couple of weeks so we can order more!
Clive Jenkins, Abersoch Lifeboat Fundraising Committee Secretary.
